Born in Derby, Northern England and coming from a long family line of marine artists, David is very much a man of the sea, having served in both the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines. During tours he would often entertain the troops by sketching comical figures and cartoons. Inspired by far flung destinations to which his nomadic naval career lead him, he was able to recreate inspiring, dynamically emotional images to transport art appreciators back in time. David's love and knowledge of the sea is readily apparent in his originals, carrying a strong sense of power and dynamic nature. The subjects hark back to a wonderful, golden era of sail and yet remain contemporary and relevant. Many of his paintings have a strong narrative sense, while the style and quality is a reminder of the traditionally great marine artists of a long passed era.
